What Is NTRIP
NTRIP (Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol) is a communication protocol that delivers real-time GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) correction data over the internet. It enables mobile GPS receivers, such as those in drones, tractors, and surveying equipment, to achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy by accessing RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) corrections from a network of reference stations.
Why Use NTRIP
NTRIP offers several advantages for improving GPS accuracy and efficiency, especially in applications like drone spraying and precision agriculture.
Improved Accuracy: Standard GPS on spray drones can have an accuracy error of up to 3 feet. With NTRIP, that accuracy improves to just a few inches. This not only improves flight path accuracy but also allows the drone to land more precisely at its home point autonomously.
RTK Accuracy Without a Physical Base Station: Traditional RTK setups require a dedicated base station. NTRIP allows users to access RTK corrections over the internet, eliminating the need for additional hardware.
Important Note: To use NTRIP with a spray drone, a stable internet connection is required to receive correction data. This is typically achieved by using a SIM Card to provide cellular connectivity to the drone or remote controller.

Note: In the state of Iowa, NTRIP service is free of charge. Your "subscription" lasts for two years before requiring renewal.
Create An IaRTN Account
The first step is to create an IaRTN account. Click the button below to get started.
Fill out the following details to create your account. Only the information marked with an asterisk (*) is required.
After signing up, you will receive an email to confirm your account. Click the link in that email to activate your account before logging in.
Once you log in, accept the Terms of Use and click "Subscribe Now."
Once you have subscribed, the Iowa DOT will process your account, which may take a few days. After that, you can use the username and password you created for your spray drone.
The standard credentials required for the drone's RTK settings are as follows:
IP Address | 165.206.203.10 |
Port | 10000 |
Recommended Access or Mount Point | RTCM 3.1 iMAX |
See below for more information on Iowa's NTRIP connection.
